The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. The firm was incorporated in 1898 jointly by James J. Hill and Henry Forster, M.P., as a holding company to acquire five separate properties and consolidate their operation: the Kaslo and Slocan Railway, the International Navigation and Trading Company, the Kaslo and Lardo-Duncan Railway, the Bedlington and Nelson Railway, and the Kootenai Valley Railway.
